Environment Basics

An Alces Clusterware environment is made up of a number of diffferent machines which are typically used for different purposes. Although these can vary, most system have the following type of resources:

• ClusterWare master node (typically labelled login node), used to provide services within the ClusterWare environment
• Compute nodes, used for running applications

Depending on the type of Clusterware environment available, the available components may vary.

As a user, you will typically access the compute environment from a ClusterWare master node. These may be referred to as login or visualisation nodes.
